THE CROSS.
The Cross that stood on Calvary,
means more than all the world to me!
Of this life’s ‘riches’ I’ve had my fill –
far greater Treasure was on that hill!
A Life laid down for YOU and ME,
to help us through our Calvary -
No guarantee beyond His Faith
and Knowledge of His Father’s Grace.
A Cup that held such bitter wine,
He Gladly drank for YOUR life and MINE!
Distress and torment, both He Knew –
yet… Gladly drank for ME and YOU!
Betrayed, abandoned, tortured, jeered,
no longer reverenced, or revered -
Yet… it all He Gladly bore,
Knowing His Followers would trust Him more!
A Crown of thorns tore at His Brow,
sweat and pain rained down now!
The whips, they lashed and cut His Skin –
and still they laughed and mocked at Him!
Beneath that Cross He Staggered on,
Knowing His Strength was almost gone…
And then… the nails tore through His Hands,
His Screams must have echo’d o’er the land!
Not ‘gentle compliance’, raw pain He Knew,
to save the likes of ME and YOU!
A spear into His Side tore,
to spill that Precious Blood e’en more…
Yet… through it all He felt Compassion,
Calling to His Father in A Voice of Passion:
“Father – Forgive them, they know not what they do!”
His Life He then Gave for ME and YOU!
From the following darkness,
Light He Gave, He Reached to us beyond the grave.
A Signpost He Left for all to see –
A lonely Cross on Calvary.
When to Him we turn in pain,
His Father’s Love, ourselves, we gain.
Treasures worth having that will not fade,
is The Promise NOW for The Price HE Paid!
